Dr. Amado Alejandro Baez MD, MSc, MPH FACEP, FCCM

For more than two decades Dr. Amado Alejandro Báez has been involved in emergency care, starting as a volunteer with the Dominican Red Cross and graduate (valedictorian) of the first paramedic class in Dominican Republic, later serving as National Chief of Disaster Operations for the Red Cross during the aftermath of Hurricane Georges (1998). In 1999 after graduating with honors from medical school, traveled to the US where he completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Mayo Clinic and a Fellowships in Trauma Critical Care at Harvard University/Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Clinical Research at the Albert Einstein Medical Center, holding masters degrees in Public Health (MPH) and Health Care Management and Policy (MSc) from the New York Medical College.
An International Public Health and Healthcare Systems expert, Born and raised in the Dominican Republic (DR), Dr Baez is a dual citizen of the DR and United States Citizen with faculty appointments with the Harvard School of Public Health ICRC (Affiliate), the University of Barcelona Spain and the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena in Santo Domingo and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he is the Emergency Medicine Program Director at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Considered an influential emergency Care leader, Dr Baez holds Fellow status with the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (FAAEM), The American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP) the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM), his academic work has led to important accolades, including the American Medical Association Paul Ambrose Award (inaugural recipient), the Emergency Medicine Residents Association Jean Hollister Award, Harvard Medical School Eleanor and Miles Shore Fellowship, Mayo Clinic International Health Scholarship, Youngest Inductee and Board Member of the Dominican Academy of Medicine, Hero of Emergency Medicine (ACEP) in 2008, the Society for Critical Care Medicine Presidential Recognition in 2011, the Junior Chamber International Outstanding Youth Award in 2010. As an academician Dr. Baez has lectured in over a dozen countries and authored more than 100 publications and developed sustainable programs in three continents, collaborating with NGOs, Academic Institutions and US, Dominican, Argentine and Panamanian governments in Prehospital and disaster systems.
Dr. Báez has over 20 years’ experience in the planning, training and support of Operational Medicine endeavors, working with numerous local, federal and international agencies supporting and developing operational capacity. As an agent and officer with the Dominican National Security Dr Baez's work primarily focused on dignitary protection services and special event security, graduating from multiple tactical, anti-terrorism and security training programs. His deployments include multiple international presidential summits, security for the 2003 Pan-American Games as well as the 2004 and 2008 and 2012 Dominican Presidential Inaugurations, as well as detail support for presidents Bush, Clinton, Carter and Vice President Biden, while at Harvard founding the Operational Medicine (OMI) Institute having direct oversight of the Boston FBI SWAT program and the State Police Tactical Team (STOP) Faculty for the Harvard Disaster Medicine Fellowship at Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, and Director of the Operational Medicine Institute at Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians, Dr Baez was instrumental in leading efforts that resulted in a trans-border (Haiti- Dom Rep) system that cared for close to 5,000 victims and family of the 2010 earthquake. And serving as Consultant to the Pan American Health Organization in several response and capacity building efforts. Currently Serves as Immediate past Chair of the ACEP Tactical EM Section. Worked as the Academic Affairs and EM Program Director at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and Medical Director for American Medical Response. Currently is a Professor and Vice-Chair for Operational Medicine and Director for the Center of Operational Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia, providing training and medical support to various law enforcement agencies.
Form an academic standpoint has authored more than 100 articles, abstracts and book chapters and edited three textbooks and served as expert lecturer in more than one dozen countries.
